Everton eyeing swoop for Viktor Gyokeres

Must Read

Everton are in desperate need of reinforcements in their forward line when the January transfer window opens and now a new potential transfer target has been revealed.

What’s the latest?

According to talkSPORT, the Toffees are one of several Premier League clubs interested in signing Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The sports broadcaster tweeted:

“BREAKING: Wolves, Brentford and Everton are all interested in signing Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres. Coventry value Gyokeres at as much as £20m – talkSPORT sources understand”

Gyokeres is a massive Maupay upgrade

Everton have found themselves once again teetering on the edge of the relegation zone in the Premier League table after a poor run of form.

The Merseysiders are currently 17th – just one point clear of the bottom three – after suffering three consecutive defeats and will next face Manchester City at the Etihad on New Year’s Eve.

One of Lampard’s biggest issues is the attacking threat in front of goal with the side currently holding the third-worst goal tally in the entire top flight – something the manager must address if the club are to avoid another difficult relegation scrap.

Fortunately, the January transfer window couldn’t come sooner for the Everton boss and the opportunity to strengthen the front line is clearly a priority.

As a result, the signing of Gyokeres could be a major coup for the club in the new year as the on-form 6 foot 1 striker could be just what Everton needs to climb into a much more comfortable position in the Premier League.

Over 23 Championship appearances this season, the 24-year-old goal machine – who is “gleaming” according to his manager Mark Robins – has scored 12 goals, registered one assist and created two big chances, as well as averaging 1.5 shots on target, 1.7 successful dribbles and 5.5 duels won per game.

There is no doubt that the Swedish striker would be a huge upgrade on newly-signed Evertonian Neal Maupay, who hasn’t been the impactful signing in front of goal that Lampard would’ve hoped for.

Over 11 appearances in the Premier League so far, the Frenchman has scored just one goal, with no assists or big chances created, averaging 0.5 shots on target, 0.2 successful dribbles and 2.5 duels won per game.

With that being said, the signing of Gyokeres could be a great piece of business for the powers at Goodison Park, as he commands a fair transfer fee and delivers the consistent goal contributions needed to improve Everton’s finishing in the final third.
