St. Louis Cardinals Hall-of-Famer and franchise legend Matt Holliday will be returning to the team as manager Oliver Marmol‘s bench coach, replacing Skip Schumaker, who departed to become the manager of the Miami Marlins.

All across Cardinal Nation, fans have expressed their excitement to see one of their all-time favorites wearing the Birds on the Bat again.

Many Cardinals fans had been interested in the idea of Holliday returning to the team in some capacity, dating back to last offseason.

Holliday was asked about his new role and commented that he felt it was “the most intriguing spot” as he decides whether or not he’d like to manage in the future.

Holliday Comments On Managing

This would be a great start for Holliday.

Holliday has been the hitting coach at Oklahoma State University, his alma mater for the past several years.

But next year, he will be returning to the Cardinals to serve as the bench coach.

Holliday will obviously have the immediate respect of the players, given his accomplishments in a Cardinals uniform.

Holliday was a key member of the Cards’ 2011 World Series Championship team and was a four-time All-Star during his eight years in St. Louis.

He’ll have two former teammates in Adam Wainwright and Nolan Arenado already on the roster.

But as the bench coach, he’ll get a chance to see what managing entails and whether or not he feels that it would be a good fit for him in the future.

Cardinals fans would certainly be on board with the idea of him managing the team someday.
