The Kansas City Chiefs have a plethora of running backs on their roster.

With starter Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and primary backups Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon, Ronald Jones is the odd man out.

After joining the Chiefs this season, Jones was expected to have some type of role.

But, that has not been the case.

Jones has yet to see the field this year for the Chiefs.

Due to his lack of playing time, Jones has requested a release from the team.

But, it appears the Chiefs will not get rid of him.

It seems unlikely that Jones will play any role in Kansas City this season.

After spending his whole career with the Buccaneers, Jones was hoping for a fresh start in Kansas City.

But, that has not been the case.

Finding A Role

In 2020, Jones had 978 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, while scoring seven touchdowns.

That was the best season of his career and he averaged 5.1 yards per carry.

Oddly, the Chiefs will not release Jones if they are not going to play him.

He has been a healthy inactive every week, despite the Chiefs struggling to run the ball all year (751 rushing yards this season).

If Kansas City has not played Jones up to this point, it seems likely he will not see the field all year barring an injury.

The Chiefs remain one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL and should give Jones a chance to show what he can do.

The 25-year-old running back is not much of a pass catcher, but he can carve out a role on first and second downs if given the opportunity.
