NFL Veteran Admits That He Studies A Jets Rookie

Tyler Lockett of the Seattle Seahawks has been a standout wide receiver for several years now, and he put up 1,033 yards and nine touchdowns in 2022 as the Seahawks had a surprisingly strong season.

Expected by most to finish in the basement of the NFC, they won six of their first nine games and finished 9-8, earning them a wild-card playoff spot.

It was the fourth straight season Lockett went over the 1,00-yard mark.

One may think that someone like him doesn’t have a whole lot to learn from those who are much younger than him, but he says he has been studying New York Jets rookie wide receiver Garrett Wilson.

Lockett seems to think very highly of Wilson’s process and fundamentals.

“Garrett Wilson’s game is real savvy,” he said. “I think he’s really elusive — when you watch the way that he gets off the line, you watch the way that he catches the ball. He’s able to catch the ball, make a move, and he’s able to take it to the house at any time.”

The rookie, who was the 10th overall pick in last year’s NFL draft, finished the year with 1,103 yards and three touchdowns despite starting just 12 of 17 games.

He won Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and, along with Defensive Rookie of the Year and All-Pro first-teamer Sauce Gardner, has become a franchise cornerstone for the Jets.

The fact that Wilson had such a strong year despite poor quarterback play is even more impressive.

Perhaps next season, someone such as Derek Carr or even Aaron Rodgers will be in New York to elevate his game even further.

Both star QBs have been linked to the Jets so far this offseason, particularly Carr, who was recently released by the Las Vegas Raiders and has reportedly met with the Jets, who are coming off a season in which they won just seven games despite starting 6-3.
