Rangers can sign their own Jack in Raskin

Must Read

The headlines surrounding Glasgow Rangers over the coming days will focus on who Ross Wilson decides to appoint as the Ibrox side’s new manager.

His primary target seems to be former Rangers first-team coach Mick Beale and he would prove to be a popular appointment if given the managerial role.

The first month for the incoming manager will be crucial, with the domestic season set to resume following the World Cup break and the January transfer window looming, it could prove to be an important honeymoon period.

Wilson could land the new boss his next Ryan Jack with a move for Nicolas Raskin. The Ibrox side were linked with the midfielder in the summer window, however, the club now appear to be reigniting their interest in the 21-year-old according to Voetbal Nieuws (via the Daily Record).

Standard Liege valued him at €5.5m (£4.7m) near the end of the summer window, however with just a few months left on his current deal, he could be available for a cut-price move in January.

The Light Blues have midfielders Scott Arfield, Steven Davis, and Jack all out of contract at the end of the season, and the likelihood is, all three will be released.

Raskin would be the ideal heir to Jack, with the youngster embodying similar traits to the Scotsman, most notably being a ball winner and possessing wonderful energy in the middle of the park.

The 21-year-old has averaged 3.3 tackles per match and created four big chances, both superior to Jack’s 1.0 tackles and creating one big chance, meaning he not only would replace the 30-year-old but could eventually become a better player if allowed to thrive in the Rangers engine room.

Jack’s injury history has unfortunately caught up with him and it’s time for both parties to move on.

Raskin was dubbed a “pitbull” by Belgian journalist Bob Faesen back in 2020 and with the chance to land the player for a bargain price due to his contract situation, it’s a move Wilson must make in order to improve the Rangers squad before next summer.

Indeed, he could just be the perfect heir to Jack in the middle of the park.
