The Yankees Still Lead A Surprising Postseason List

The New York Yankees haven’t played a World Series since 2009, and that’s also the year of their last MLB title.

Fans are furious at the front office and ownership because they are tired of watching the Houston Astros, the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Boston Red Sox go to the World Series and not the Bombers.

Even the Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers (!) have gone to the Fall Classic more recently than New York.

However, it’s all about perspective.

If we set the timeframe a little bit further back, we find that the Yankees have had quite a bit of World Series success (and appearances) since the league’s last expansion.

“How many times each franchise has made the World Series since MLB went to 30 teams in 1998: 6 NYY; 5 HOU; 4 BOS, SF, STL; 3 LAD, PHI; 2 ATL, DET, KC, NYM, TB, TEX; 1 ARI, CHC, CLE, COL, CWS, LAA, MIA, SD, WSH 0 BAL, CIN, MIL, MIN, OAK, PIT, SEA, TOR,” Codify Baseball tweeted.

The Leading Team In Post-Expansion World Series Appearances

The Yanks are the only team with six World Series appearances since 1998, and they won four: 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2009.

The Astros made it in 2005 when they were in the National League, and then in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022.

The Sox have enjoyed a lot of recent success, too, having played the last series of the season in 2004, 2007, 2013, and 2018.

The most impressive thing?

They won them all.

But back to the Yankees.

Their issues stem from the fact that they haven’t been able to reach the level of overall excellence that the Astros boast at the moment, not because they have done things the wrong way.

Change is necessary to try and overcome them, but the overall modus operandi hasn’t been all that flawed.

Developing and bringing in as many impact players as possible should be the goal.

Everything else will be falling into place.
