Last season, Marcus Semien got a $175 million contract; Corey Seager signed a $325 million one, and Carlos Correa earned $35.1 million in 2022 before opting out and becoming a free agent again.
All of them are shortstops; elite ones at that.
Los Angeles Dodgers star Trea Turner may be the best of the bunch.
Turner, 29, is reaching free agency at a perfect time in which he is considered young and in his prime, and having had a huge season with the Dodgers.
He has the recent success, youth, and physical gifts to opt for a large contract, perhaps almost as big if not bigger than Seager’s.
A recent video of Turner’s highlights was narrated by actor Jon Hamm, and it’s the type of top content you will love to watch.
“Trea Turner is about to get a billion dollar contract after this video narrated by Jon Hamm that got sent around to teams today (h/t @JeffPassan),” Talkin’ Baseball tweeted.

A Video Packed With Action
The video shows everything Turner can do: he has a sweet, short swing that has virtually no holes, and his explosiveness to the ball is showcased in the clip.
He is also one of the fastest players in the league, capable of stealing more than 30 bases in a single season.
His power has come along in recent campaigns, and he is now an annual 20-homer threat.
He can work walks, he plays excellent defense at shortstop (although it was a bit sloppy in the 2022 playoffs) and has already won a World Series, in 2019 with the Washington Nationals.
This past season, he accumulated 6.3 Wins Above Replacement (WAR), too, by hitting .298/.343/.466 with 21 homers, 101 runs, 100 RBI, and 27 steals.
As Hamm states, he is a nightmare for rivals, but a dream come true for teammates and fans.
He is one of the most consistently productive players there is, and should get a huge contract as he hits free agency.
